Oldest Living American Has Passed Away!
On Thursday night the world's oldest living person, Susannah Mushatt Jones, passed away at the ripe age of 116 at a senior living facility in Brooklyn, NY. Susannah Mushatt Jone has held the Guinness world record of being the oldest living person since April of 2015 , being the only living American born in the 1800's.
A Brazilian man claimed to be the oldest person, citing he was 131 years old, but Ms. Jones was given the record after Misao Okawa (Tokyo) died at the age of 117. Emma Marano, at 116 years of age, now holds the record. Born in 1899 in Alabama, Ms. Jones worked her family farm before moving to New York as a nanny. Known for her love of kids and generosity, Ms. Jones co-founded a college scholarship for African American women. Ms. Susie only ate the fresh produce she picked and was active in her housing's Patrol Up program until the age of 106.
