It was reported that NBA player, Dwayne Wade lost his cousin yesterday. According to the news she was shot and killed while pushing a child in a stroller. The incident took place in Chicago.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was pushing a child in a stroller while she walked with another man from the Dulles School of Excellence in Chicago’s Parkway Gardens neighbourhood around 3:30 p.m. Read the full report below!
Apparently two men walked up on the man she was walking with and began shooting, Aldridge, an innocent bystander, was struck in the head and arm. The child was unharmed but Nykea was pronounced dead after she was taken to Stroger Hospital.
Wade’s mother, Pastor Jolinda Wade, tried to console her crying sister as she spoke on the tragic incident. “Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that’s going on within our city of Chiacgo, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it,” Pastor Wade said.
Two brothers have been arrested in connection with her murder. Darwin Sorrells Jr., 26, and Derren Sorrells, 22, have each been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder, police said Sunday. Darwin Sorrells has also been charged with a count of criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.
Both men are gang members who were on parole for gun convictions, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson said Sunday at a news conference. They are both being held without bond, a source with knowledge of the case told CNN Sunday.
