Yesterday it was reported that 18 year old Michael Moore was shot and killed by the Mobile police in Atlante. According to Fox 10, the young man, along with two other passengers were in their vehicle and pulled over after committing a traffic violation. When stopped Moore did not have a driver’s license and was asked to step outside of the vehicle. Police say once he stepped outside of the vehicle there was a confrontation and they noticed a handgun on his waistband. Police say:
“The officer drew his duty weapon and fired striking Moore four times.” According to people that witnessed the incident, they thought it was a regular traffic stop, but it turned out to be something different. After Moore got out of the vehicle with his cellphone in hand, the officer shot him. The young man fell to the ground and the officer shot him four more times before flipping him over and handcuffing him.
Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson released a statement saying :
“Last night, a Mobile Police officer was involved in a fatal shooting just before 7 p.m. First and foremost, our prayers and condolences are with the family of Mike Moore. Any time a life is lost it is a tragedy. The incident is under investigation by the Mobile Police Department. We have called upon the FBI to run a parallel investigation with the MPD. I have complete confidence that the investigation will reveal the facts. I expect that this process will be as transparent as is legally possible. We ask for prayer and patience until the full facts are revealed.”
Investigators are interviewing the two other passengers that were in the car, as well as other witnesses at the scene. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending this investigation.
